"ANCHOR" ENGINE ORDER TELEGRAPHThis is a replica (about 1/4th size) of a real engine order telegraph (probably a salesman’s sample). These instruments were used to communicate between the wheelhouse and the engine room regarding engine direction and speed orders. Except for the face, it is constructed of solid “yellow brass”. When the handles are turned, it rings orders. The beauty was completely disassembled and refurbished (both the brass and wood). The brass was sealed with a clear brass lacquer and the wood (mahogany) was stripped and three coats of spar varnish were applied. Age is unknown… probably 1950s era. The Anchor design is unique… we haven’t seen one like this before.
